Harvey and his wife, Kay, are originally from the foothills of North Carolina, growing up as neighbors and close friends, and marrying after college in 1987. They have been members of Colonial since 2003, after moving to Cary from the western part of the state. They have three children, Josh, Lauren and Mic. The McDowell’s live in the Regency area of Cary, off Penny Road. In addition to serving as a deacon, Harvey has served in the worship ministry, on short-term mission trips, and as a coach for Upward Basketball
